Hence the quality of an eye glass plays a major role in protecting our eyes, from these kinds of issues. Some of the other techniques which could help us have a proper vision are, wearing contact lenses and laser treatment. But many people do not opt for laser treatment since they are not aware of the treatment methodology. Allergy can be said as the exaggerated or hyper sensitive reaction of our immune system in response to certain foreign substances which do not cause any markable response in a non-allergic person. The foreign substances which cause allergy are called Allergens. Common allergens are pollen, hay, molds, dust, dander, certain drugs, change in climate and foods. Allergy is common and 1 in 3 persons are allergic to either allergen.

Allergy is acquired and rapid reaction and is type I hypersensitivity which is due to excessive activation of certain WBC (mast cells and eosinophills) which is caused by mediation of Immunoglobulin-E (IgE). IgE is an antibody which all of us have in small amounts. Allergic persons, however, produce larger amount of IgE.

The major factor for allergy appears to be hereditary and environment.

Many allergens such as dust or pollen are airborne particles. In these cases, symptoms arise in areas in contact with air, such as eyes, nose and lungs. Symptoms of food allergy include abdominal pain, swelling of abdomen, vomiting, diarrhea, itchy skin, and swelling of the skin. Insect stings, antibiotics, and certain medicines can causes anaphylaxis which is acute systemic (multi-system) and severe hypersensitivity allergic reaction. Severe allergies can cause coma and even death. Asthma in many cases is related to allergy.

Traditionally treatment and management of allergies involved simply avoiding the allergen in question or otherwise reducing exposure.  Now there have been enormous improvements in the medical treatments used to treat allergic conditions. Several antagonistic drugs are used to block the action of allergic mediators, or to prevent activation of immune cells. Anti histamines are commonly used. Immunotherapy involves desensitization or hypo sensitization in which the patient is gradually vaccinated with progressively larger doses of the allergen in question. This can either reduce the severity or eliminate hypersensitivity altogether by blocking excessive IgE production

Self medication is one of the most ignorant and dangerous activities. Even with the increase in the literacy rate, the number of people who are medicating themselves has not reduced. We think that we have enough knowledge on our illness and why should we consult a doctor when we know the medicines to be taken. The moat important thing to be taken into our mind is that, many medicines have side effects. The doctor knows the right combination of medicines to be given to the patients so that there are no side effects. And according to the body conditions, even some common medicines should not be given to some people. In those cases, self medication may lead to various other diseases and sometimes it may lead to death. So be cautious.

The pancreas is an organ located on the rear of the abdominal wall. The exocrine part of the organ secretes digestive juices into the small intestine and the endocrine part secretes insulin and glucogon to regulate blood sugar level.

Pancreatitis is the inflammation of pancreas. There are two form of pancreatitis – acute and chronic.

The main causes of pancreatitis are gall stones and excessive consumption of alcohol. Other causes include high triglyceride amount in blood, viral infection and trauma. Medications including the AIDS drugs DDI and pentamidine and some diuretics are reported to cause pancreatitis. Hereditary is also a cause. Chronic pancreatitis occurs after repeated attacks of acute pancreatitis. Type 2 diabetes subjects have 2.8 fold higher risk for pancreatitis compared to non diabetic subjects.

Severe upper abdominal pain, with radiation through to the back, is the hallmark of pancreatitis. Nausea and vomiting are prominent symptoms. Elevated blood pressure due to prominence of pain or decreased blood pressure in case of internal bleeding can be noticed.

Acute(early) complications of pancreatitis includes circulatory shock, low calcium level, high blood glucose, dehydration, respiratory complications including pneumonitis. Late complications may lead to jaundice.

Treatment primarily involves provision of pain relief and adequate replacement of fluids and salts. Limitation of oral intake is preferred. Surgery may be required in some cases.

Prevention can include limiting alcohol intake, avoidance of abdominal trauma, careful food preparation techniques, avoidance of aspirin in treating children to reduce risk, immunization of children against mumps.
