Breastfeeding is found to reduce the risk of obesity, cancer, abfractions and many more diseases. Recent studies reveal that, breastfeeding may prevent asthma and other respiratory problems. Breast milk contains fats, water, proteins, carbohydrates and vitamins, though the proportion of each may vary with individual and also depends on the lactation period. The fat content in the breast milk is believed to be high during night time and low fat content during mornings. In similar way other constituents also change during the course of the day. Breast fed babies get hungry often, compared to their counterparts.

Mother should start breastfeeding her baby as soon as possible provided both, the baby and the mother are in a relaxed state. If they have any problem in breastfeeding they should approach a lactation consultant at the earliest. Lactating mothers should take ample iron and calcium. Milk, green vegetables and spinach are always suggested for nursing mothers and they should never consume alcohol or smoke.

Breast milk alone is sufficient for a baby which is less than six months old, but for a baby greater than six months of age additional nutrients should also be provided in addition to breast milk. There is no particular time after which mother should stop breastfeeding her baby.

Women must take care of themselves during pregnancy so that the baby grows healthy inside. Various aspects are to be considered, which includes diet, exercise and sleep. Out of all these aspects, diet is the most important thing that a pregnant woman must take care of. The food taken by the mother is converted as the food for the fetus. Hence a pregnant woman must maintain a balanced diet by taking all the required nutrients in the right content. During pregnancy, make sure that you drink a lot of water so that you can maintain the oxygen level for the baby.

Slight exercise is necessary for pregnant women. Especially after six months of pregnancy, women need to go for short walks regularly and should engage in simple exercises. Doing physical activities during pregnancy will help in achieving a normal delivery and reduces the chances of caesarean. Those who are more active and engage in physical activities through out pregnancy will be able to recover quickly after delivery.

The mental fitness of the pregnant woman has its own effects on the fetus. So it is important to overcome mental depressions and to keep you mind cool and relaxed during pregnancy. Finally, a regular follow up with the doctor is essential through out your pregnancy.

The first thing to do is to use cotton clothes to hold the baby, which helps us protect the baby from skin allergies. It is important to keep the baby warm, especially when it is born under cold climates. Mother should take healthy and nutritious food, which is important for breast feeding. The baby should be breast fed at least for the first six months to make sure that the baby grows healthy.

During the first week, the baby’s excretion will be in black colour and there is nothing to worry about it. Regular follow up with a particular doctor is a must for the first three months. If you feel that the baby is affected by some illness, immediate consultation with the doctor is a must. Some parents may tend to medicate their baby themselves, which is dangerous. Self medication should be avoided at any cost.

Babies due to their tenderness are vulnerable to different kinds of diseases. It’s the duty of the parents to take frequent checks on their child for any symptoms of illness. Cold is the most common disease that can infect a baby. Due to the tenderness of the baby even a small climatic change could cause trouble to it. The best possible way to overcome this is to treat the baby with antibiotics suggested by the physician.

The next common illness among babies is constipation. Once the child starts to take solid foods, we should make sure that the diet is balanced and also there is ample liquid content intake. Though constipation is not given much medical attention severe symptoms should be given immediate attention.

Apart from these common and not so fatal diseases children may also get attacked by fatal diseases like Diphtheria, mumps, polio and tetanus. Vaccination is the best way to prevent your child against these diseases. Before vaccinating consult a pediatrician and make sure if your baby needs those vaccines and if it is the right time. Therefore parents play a major role in preventing babies from dreadful diseases and infections.
