Chlamydomonas

Chlamydomonas Ehrenberg: Chlamydomonadaceae.

Green algae. Single celled, round algae, free-floating and non-settling; found in pools and ditches. Each cell has a large cup-shaped chloroplast with a reddish eye-spot. There are two flagella, or whip-like "tails," per cell; these allow it to propel itself about and move towards areas of moderate light. These algae can cause taste and odor problems in drinking water.
